Helping the hungry in Preston County
through food, education and hunger awareness.
Originally created out of need during the 1985 Cheat River Flood, Food for Preston helps secure food, funding and volunteers for the 11 food pantries located throughout Preston County. Collectively, the pantries served 1,881 people each month in 2012 which is a 19% increase from 2011 and produces a 54% increase in the number of people served over the past five years.
In 2012, Food for Preston partnered with Preston County Schools to raise child hunger awareness and demonstrate the need for a local backpack feeding program. The Food for Preston Backpack Feeding Program bridges the weekend food gap to help children begin their school week nourished and ready to learn.
Our program currently serves 190 Preston County students each week during the school year. The continued success of the program is dependent upon our positive partnership with Preston County Schools, a network of volunteers, generous donations and on-going fundraising efforts.
We welcome your support. Thank you for your interest in Food for Preston.
